Pickle Juice FAQs
Is Pickle Juice the same as pickle brine?
No. Whilst the base of both pickle brine and Pickle Juice is vinegar, that is where the similarity ends. Pickle brine contains sugar, protein and other nasty items which are not helpful for athletes. It’s rough and raw. Pickle Juice is USDA certified organic and has been strenuously tested since 2001.
So, what is Pickle Juice?
Pickle Juice is a 100% natural, purpose built isotonic sports drink. It has a vinegar base mixed with triple filtered water and contains no sugar, no caffeine and has added vitamins C and E plus zinc, potassium and sodium.
Pickle Juice is smooth and easy to drink and has no nasties like straight pickle brine and contains 10 times more electrolytesthan most other sports drinks.

So if there are no pickles in it, why does it taste like there are?
Pickle Juice is a 100% natural and usda certified organic product. The flavour comes from the addition of 100% natural dill oil. This is what gives it the pickle taste.
When do I take Pickle Juice? When I cramp or before?
Pickle Juice will both prevent cramping or act as a cure to stop the cramp once it has occurred. Based on 10ml per 10kg of body weight Pickle Juice taken before an event will prevent cramping episodes for between 50 to 60mins depending on levels of exertion. For example, if a footballer usually cramps in the last quarter he should consume Pickle Juice at three-quarter time. This will allow him to run out the game, cramp free. Just ask Dan Menzel from the Geelong Cats!
What if I am cramping?
Take the Pickle Juice and the cramp will release within 15 to 20 seconds; cramps disappear almost immediately and not return. Continued exercise will be cramp free for at least the next 50 to 60 minutes
How does Pickle Juice work?
Pickle Juice works by attacking the cause and not the symptoms of cramping. Researchers have found there are neural receptors located at the back of the throat which send the cramp message to the muscles. When the active ingredient in Pickle Juice (the vinegar base) comes into contact with these receptors it switches off the cramp message and the spasm will cease almost instantaneously.
Is there any evidence to support this?
Apart from the overwhelming endorsement we have received from professional athletes and our customers world wide, there is a large body of scientific research to support our claims. Most notable are the following studies:
Dr Kevin Miller: Associate Professor in Athletic Training at Central Michigan University.
The miller study found that it was Pickle Juice and not deionized water, that inhibits electrically induced muscle cramps in hypohydrated humans. This effect could not be explained by rapid restoration of body fluids or electrolytes alone.
Professor Martin Schwellnus: Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at University of Pretoria.
Dr Schwellnus found transient receptor potential (TRP) antagonists (e.g. chemical compounds in Pickle Juice) may have a role in the treatment of acute exercise induced muscle cramping and that stimulation of oral/oesophageal TRP channels may be the mechanism for the observed reduction in laboratory induced muscle cramps (by electrical stimulation) by Pickle Juice.
Do I have to swallow the Pickle Juice for it to be effective?
No. As the research shows, provided the liquid comes into contact with the neural receptors at the back of the throat the cramp message will switch off. However, as Pickle Juice is also high in electrolytes, gargling only and not swallowing will not provide the rehydration benefits Pickle Juice also provides. Hydration/rehydration is also a component of cramp management.
I have a 240ml bottle. Do i need to drink it all to fix the cramp?
No. A 240ml bottle will provide 3 to 4 drinks. As a general guide, 60 to 80ml per drink will be sufficient to fix your muscle cramp. It is shelf stable and does not require refrigeration. This product is perfect for those who suffer from night cramps or cramp from mild exertion.
Why would i use the 75ml extra strength Pickle Juice shot?
The Pickle Juice 75ml shot is an extra strength portion controlled version more suited for those exercising at a higher intensity. Elite athletes will drink the entire 75ml.
Is it safe for elite athletes to take?
